DESCRIPTION

Antique spelter dog statue. Mounted on a marble base this vintage hollow wolf like dog has the aesthetic of the Roman Molossian hounds of ancient times. Most likely made during the classics revivals during the late 19th century this engaging dog has a bemusing pose. The animal is intrigued as if it is reacting to its masters voice with a quirky pose insinuating movement. This Molossian hound is fashioned after the Hellenistic sculpture of ancient times.

Not marked anywhere it may be an Italian or French statue. This vintage figurine is attached to the marble plinth via two removable bolts.

A great addition to your dog statue collection or eclectic home decor, this would make a great decorative paperweight.

Dog statue on its marble plinth measures 4.8" long by 2.75" wide 5" tall and weighs 1lb 13oz.

CONDITION

The dog statue is in good condition with some small chips on the marble plinth commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
