Antique Plate Signed Renoir Etching Le Chapeau Epinglé (The Hat Secured with a Pin), c. 1894

  • $ 65000

DESCRIPTION

Original third plate etching of Pierre August Renoirs (1841-1919) "Pinning The Hat" on thick hand woven paper. This troiseme planche or third pate was created around 1894 by Renoir in much greater detail than the first two versions which feature the girls facing in the opposite direction with much less detail. The scene depicts the two serene young women (Berthe Morisot’s daughter, Julie Manet, and her cousin) seated in elegant dresses and wearing large hats with ribbons on them, the model facing the viewer is having her hat adjusted by the model in the foreground. Beautifully executed, this work is a strong example of the impressionist reflection on life as that of light and beauty.

Hand signed in the plate by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 – 1919) in the lower left of the image, this print is created after the second state of two. Featured in the 1894 publication of La Vie Artistique by Gustave Geffroy and also in the 1921 work, Renoir et ses Amis by Georges Rivière.

Signed Renoir (in the plate)

This would suit any eclectic style home decor. A great housewarming or early holiday gift idea for any impressionist or Renoir collector.
