DESCRIPTION

Antique sterling silver Temperance medal. Silver Royal Army Temperance Association medal which would originally have suspended from a ribbon to be worn by members of the British arms temperance association. Struck in sterling most likely in India where this organization was founded during the 19th century. It depicts crossed lances holding the banner, sword, rifle with a helmet all under the crown (who was the patron sponsor of Temperance associations). This medal dates from the 19th century as intimated by the crown and ribbon bar design.
