RL Antique Miscellaneous Asian Japanese Shakudo Meiji Era Metalware

  • $ 16000

DESCRIPTION

Antique set of 4 miscellaneous Asian metal decorations. All pieces are Meiji period with at least three of them being Japanese in origin.

One copper letter opener handle decorated in high relief (or repousse) on both sides. The obverse side depicts a heron preening itself by a tree, with the reverse side depicting a vase containing chrysanthemums with birds flying.

A Shakudo or mixed metal single obverse side of a brass letter opener. This high relief ornate (or repousse) casting depicts a man with very long arms offering up a basket of fruit to the Gods. The reverse side is missing, which may have been a mirror image of this side.

A single side of a letter opener. This brass obverse side is again heavily decorated (in repousse style) with a contorted dragon. Exquisitely cast this is only one sided.

A small heavy brass decoration depicting a soldier mounting his horse. Full of detail and movement this piece may have been the top of a larger piece or mounting on a saddle of a warrior. Again this only has one side.

A perfect addition to your eclectic home decor or a fabulous gift idea. These would make great additions to any Japanese metal collection.
