Vintage Japanese Shakudo Meiji Era Letter Opener

Vintage Japanese Shakudo letter opener made from brass and plated copper. Late Meiji period in date (1868 -1912) this beautifully ornate letter opener was crafted with great skill and detail. The handle is ornately decorated in high relief with theatrical characters on one side with a vase of chrysanthemums and scissors on the other. The characters have coppered masks and one has a copper face and hands. The blade depicts a swallow over a flowering tree on one side and what appears to be a a man on his way to a dwelling on the other.

This would make a fabulous birthday gift, housewarming gift holiday gift or for any Japanese metal enthusiasts.

MEASUREMENTS

Opener measures: 11" long by 1 wide and weighs 2.8oz.

CONDITION

In good condition considering age and use with some slight separation occurring where the handle meets the blade- please see all pictures as they form part of the description.
