DESCRIPTION

Antique French traveling painters box. Dating to around 1910 this antique fold out box retains many of its original paint blocks albeit partially used. Most likely this belonged to a young lady of means due to its delicate and light compact size. The box set retains its original mixing porcelain palettes and glass water containers. It is sparsely decorated on the front with typical art nouveau transfer imagery.

The paint box set known as Couleurs Sans Danger was meant to promote a safety aspect in these new paints and encourage parents to buy them for their children when they visited art galleries and museums.

The diamond-shaped logo featuring the letter "B" flanked by caducei, with the words "PARIS" at top and "DÉPOSÉE" at bottom, is an indication that the strainer was created and presumably sold by Bourgeois Ainé, an artist supply shop located in Paris near the Musée du Louvre.

In 1965, Bourgeois Ainé merged with Lefranc et Cie to become Lefranc Bourgeois, a company that exists to this day.

A great addition to your antique art collection or eclectic home decor. This would make a great early holiday gift or as a display piece for an art gallery.

Case measures 8.5" long by 6.5" deep by 3.25" tall and weighs: 2b 4oz.

CONDITION

In good condition considering age and use. The top does not close completely and I did not want to force it. the lid seems to have warped a little causing the gap when trying to close it - please see all pictures as they form part of the description.
