Antique 19th C Gilt Metal Figural Triple Candelabra Warriors Sword Helmet Shield
DESCRIPTION
Antique pair of gilt metal 19th century candelabra. Figurative metal sculptures depicting an ancient European knight standing against an exotic palm tree looking intensely into the distance. He wears a Saracen helmet with chain mail which suggests Victorian in date when amalgamations were made between European and Eastern folklore. The emblems depicting gauntlets, banners, short swords, burgonet helmets and shields coupled with the foreign palm trees was often used from the 1870's onwards as there was a revived interest in ancient history. Each of the 3 candle holders which splay from the center flute out into a bell shaped flower shape. these pair of gilt metal candelabra date from the 1870's-1890's era and are European in origin (German, Austrian, French).
A great addition to any antique candelabra or bonze military sculpture collection. This would make a great man cave, bar or fathers day gift.
