Antique Oil Painting On Porcelain 19th C after Georg Hom German Plaque Miniature
Antique 19th century painted porcelain plaque. Depicting an elderly gentleman lighting a pipe after a famous Georg Hom (1838-1911) painting this piece is painted onto a porcelain plaque and mounted in an ornate frame. This piece is incredibly detailed and finely painted portrait which illustrates a complex study in light effects. This was an area of particular interest for the artist who worked in fine layers of glazes to gain light and warmth. Exquisitely painted this miniature plaque dates to around 1900 when Hom was very popular. Georg Hom was very popular as a portraitist and genre painter, and was especially noted for his paintings with candlelight effects. He regularly exhibited at annual shows in Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich.

Framed porcelain measures 12.12" tall by 10.12" wide by 2.5" deep and weighs 2lb 3oz. The porcelain plaque measures 4.12" wide by 6.12" long.
