Antique Primitive Saffro Wooden Sock Form

  • $ 12500

DESCRIPTION

Primitive advertising and garment shaper. Antique sock stretcher with vintage advertising for Saffro. Wooden forms were used for displaying socks in a haberdashery store in the early 20th century or as accessories to aid drying socks on a line. This particular advertising dates to and refers to the Victorian period due to the royal warrant crest and imagery. Wooden sock stretcher forms were an easy advertising method to promote the sale of a specific brand of socks in the early 20th century.

Marked: Saffro Regd, Hosiery of the finest quality, for ladies, gentlemen and children, suppliers to her majesty of fine hosiery.
On back: 6

Stretchers were the best way of keeping socks and stockings the right size and shape after laundering. If they had holes all over to help air circulate so much the better. The flat wooden legs, clad in long woolly socks, were hung from outdoor clotheslines or given a place to dry indoors.

A great addition to your primitives collection or country store home decor.

Antique sock form measures 8.5 inches wide by 39 inches tall (foot part measures 10" long) and weighs 14 oz.
