Vintage bronze Winston Churchill medal struck by Pierre Turin in 1945 ( MCMVL) to commemorate his role in the liberation of France. The medal obverse depicts Churchill in relief facing left in military attire with his name above. On the reverse side it depicts the Marlborough coat of arms as bestowed upon the first Dukedom, and the inscription 'NOUS N'AVONS QU'UN DÉSIR VOIR UNE FRANCE FORTE ET LIBRE ENTOURÉE DE SON EMPIRE ET RÉUNIE A L'ALSACE-LORRAINE 10 NOVEMBRE 1942.' (WE HAVE THAT DESIRE SEE FRANCE STRONG AND FREE AND SURROUNDED BY ITS EMPIRE MET in Alsace-Lorraine 10 November 1942').

Pierre Turin is widely considered the most accomplished Art Deco medalist. He was born in Sucy-en-Brie, France, in 1891 and died in 1968. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts, where he studied under Vernon, Patey and Coutain. In 1920 he won the Grand Prix de Rome, and was made Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1936. His most famous work is the medal for the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts that gave the name to the Art Deco style.
