Antique arts and crafts cellarette. Typical of the Cincinnati Shop of The Crafters in style this cellarette bar has a Friar Tuck type monk painted on a panel on the front. The hinges have lead faux strapping on the front and studs throughout. This is a heavy wooden piece which dates to the first quarter of the 20th century.

Cincinnati was a center of the Arts & Crafts Movement in the Midwest. Although primarily known for the art pottery produced by Rookwood, it was also was the home for other Arts and Crafts manufacturers, including The Shop of the Crafters, which was in business from 1904 to 1920.

The company was owned by Oscar Onken and specialized in unique Mission furniture. Crafters furniture tended to be more massive and heavy than the other mission producers, and it displayed a distinctively European, masculine look.

Cellerette measures 15" wide by 14.5" deep by 46.5" tall (top measures 10.75" by 10.75")

CONDITION

In good condition with wear and tear commensurate with age and use. There is a split in the wood at the top of the piece. The lead hinge on the top right has broken away slightly at the edge. There is chipping to the paint on the image of the monk on the front door. On the inside of the door the middle section is missing one of the side of wood to the bottle holders and the bottom base on the inside is replaced but it appears to be a period repair (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
