DESCRIPTION
Antique Japanese dragon brass vesta case. Superbly designed vesta or matches case this high relief three clawed dragon opens up his mouth to reveal the inside matches. Dating to around 1890-1910 this exquisite match safe is typical of the high quality expected from the Meiji period. The ridge on the bottom is used to strike the matches on. The hing is strong and snaps shut tightly.
