Vintage Japanese Shakudo Meiji Era Letter Opener
Vintage Japanese Shakudo letter opener made from copper. Late Meiji period in date (1868 -1912) this beautifully ornate letter opener was crafted with great skill and detail. The handle is ornately decorated with a cockroach on a cucumber and flying birds, flowers and pheasants on the other. The blade depicts bamboo and a a bird on one side and foliage on the other.
Cicadas are a sign of rebirth or change in Japanese culture. This would make a fabulous birthday gift, housewarming gift holiday gift or for any Japanese metal enthusiasts.
